Today the Red Sox made it official and introduced newly acquired Mike Cameron who will be wearing the number 23 and John Lackey who will be wearing number 40. Cameron was officially introduced along side Theo Epstein at 11:30am today. Cameron is back in the American League for the first time since 2003 when he played with the Seattle Mariners. He has since played with the National League teams the Mets, Padres and Brewers.In the 2nd press conference of the day. John Lackey was introduced as #40 for the Red Sox. Comparing Lackey to Beckett their career numbers are pretty darn close. They both are from Texas. Lackey is from Abilene and Beckett hails from Spring, Texas. Josh Beckett has a career record of 106-68 while Lackey's is 102-71. Beckett has a win percentage of .609 and Lackey's is .590. Lackey's earn run average is slightly higher at 3.81 while Beckett's is at 3.79, They have both given up 151 home runs over their career. Josh Beckett has appeared in 1 more All-Star with 2 appearances over Lackey. They both have won World Series Clinching games, Lackey in 2002 and Beckett in 2003.
Also, Today during Mike Cameron's introduction to Red Sox Nation, in the post press conference, Epstein was asked about Jason Bay. Theo didn't say a whole lot as expected. I have attached the brief video with his response.
