Sox sign relief pitcher, Scott Atchison

The Sox make it official and announce that they signed 32 year old, right handed reliever Scott Atchison to a 1 year deal with options for 2011 and 2012. Atchison pitched the last 2 seasons over in Japan for the Hanshin Tigers. Over 194.2 innings, he struck out 81 walked 20 and had a 2.77 ERA. Atchison, who turns 33 in March, was last in the majors in 2007 when he pitched for the San Francisco Giants. He has 53 games of big-league experience, compiling a 4.10 ERA. He had 70 strikeouts in 68 innings and allowed 68 hits.

Also today, The Red Sox have resigned lefty Kason Gabbard to a minor league deal. Gabbard will try to work his way back after a poor season in the Sox system after he was reacquired from Texas Rangers last summer.
