Jason Bay and Mets agree to deal

Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated via twitter, confirms the report made earlier today by a New York radio station, Mike Franseca, of WFAN, that Jason Bay will sign a contract with the Mets pending a physical. It is said the Mets will officially announce it next week. An offer of around 4 year/$65 million. New York Post's Joel Sherman is saying the same as far as the contract to be 4 years and $66 million agreement but also stated the deal has a fifth-year vesting option. The 2014 vesting option appears to be worth more than $14 million. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick tweets that Bay's deal could be worth more than $80MM over five years. Bay, who spent the last season and a half with the Red Sox, was considered to be one of the prizes on this year's free agent market. He batted .267 last season with 36 home runs and 119 RBI. Bay had previously turned down a 4-year, $60 million offer to remain in Boston this off season. With Bay off the market I am guessing Matt Holliday's demand will be on rise.
